Message from the ATA PresidentDear AFRICA TRAVEL ASSOCIATION™ Members, A spirit of great optimism animates the travel, tourism and hospitality industries in Africa today. Realizing this vision requires multi-level investment, support and partnership. It also requires a commitment to "responsible tourism" by supporting initiatives that promote conservation and growth, while also minimizing the negative impact that the tourism industry often yields. We need to make deliberate efforts on regional and national levels to involve our local communities in managing our continent's natural resources and promoting tourism development.
But this is still not enough. The world can develop an even deeper appreciation for Africa and make an even greater investment in the continent by traveling to one or several of the continents countries. We welcome you as an active partner in helping promote this mission. Kind regards,
Honorable Shamsa Selengia Mwangunga Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism United Republic of Tanzania
Message from the Executive Director
Dear Members, Colleagues and Friends,
For more than three decades, ATA members have strived to increase the flow of tourism to Africa from around the world. In tandem, ATA headquarters has worked to implement these strategies, and to plan for the future.
Tourism is a pillar of economic growth in Africa and, to ensure that the continent benefits, ATA encourages private-public investment, entrepreneurial initiatives, and strong partnerships that will benefit everyone involved. ATA's success rests on the inspiration and ideas of its members. We look to you to lead us in meeting present and future challenges and hope you will contribute your energy and your voice to our shared mission. Edward Bergman Executive Director AFRICA TRAVEL ASSOCIATION™
